Puebla, Mexico
Beneath the Volcanoes
Puebla slows everything down. Colonial streets and tiled buildings sit beneath the enormous volcanic silhouettes of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, giving us a destination where history and wilderness seem to occupy the same horizon. We'll explore the historic center, chase down mole poblano and use the surrounding high country to put hiking boots back to work.
Elevation is becoming part of the expedition now, so the FJ80 receives another cooling-system check along with brakes, transmission fluid, tire pressures and steering components. After mountain roads, the evening belongs to recovery: a comfortable room, long shower, proper meal and an early night. The truck gets maintenance. So do we.
