Oaxaca City, Mexico
Mezcal, Mountains & Earned Luxury
Oaxaca deserves more than a quick overnight. We'll start with Monte Albán, wander markets and historic streets, and then disappear into the surrounding mountains before returning for mezcal and one of Mexico's finest culinary scenes. This is exactly how we want the expedition to feel: sweat through a hike in the morning, get dust on the Land Cruiser in the afternoon and sit down to an extraordinary dinner that night.
For the indulgent option, Quinta Real occupies a restored former convent in Oaxaca's historic center and adds a pool and full-service comforts to the experience. A more intimate alternative is GRANA B&B. Before leaving, we'll inspect suspension bushings, wheel bearings and tires—the rougher roads ahead are where small weaknesses become large ones.
