Coffee Above the Clouds

Crossing into Panama, we'll climb almost immediately into the cool highlands around Boquete. Coffee farms cover the slopes while cloud forest, waterfalls and mountain trails give us another chance to stretch our legs. A coffee-estate tour in the morning followed by a long hike gives the day exactly the balance we're looking for.

For lodging, Finca Panda Coffee Farm & Luxury Casitas puts us directly on a working coffee farm with mountain views and private casitas. For something more historic, Panamonte Inn & Spa dates to the early 20th century and combines gardens, mountain-town atmosphere and a respected restaurant. This is also another altitude stop, so tire pressures, cooling performance and brakes get checked before the final push east.
